About the Centre for Healthy Living
The Centre for Healthy Living provides counselling and a range of programs to assist individuals enhance their health and happiness, their relationships and family life. The Centre promotes understanding and practice of those factors which enhance physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Personal counselling and psychological services are available for individuals, couples and families. Psychologists at the Centre have extended their knowledge of both Western and Eastern psychology with a deeper understanding arising from their own practice of the principles of healthy living. In 1970 the Foundation established a group for training health practitioners by complementing their academic knowledge with training in personal development. This focussed on developing qualities of emotional maturity, independence, integrity and compassion as well as a practical understanding of various aspects of physical and mental health care. Regular meetings are held to foster both professional and personal development of the staff. The counsellors at the Centre have each had over 30 years training in understanding the basis of human problems and effective ways of helping people to resolve them and achieve their own goals. The philosophy underpinning the Centre has been expressed by its founder Vijayadev Yogendra as follows: “Development of the self lies within your own competence, but it is a slow process requiring gradual understanding of individual inhibitions, demands, needs and greeds and the shedding of those facets of lifestyle that are inconsistent with your inner self. Self-realization for the practitioner is therefore of the highest priority. If he has not realized this self, he certainly has not realized his innate potential to help others. Health practitioners should therefore help by giving thought to the practices that are vital to the principles of living and vital to the growth of those in their care.” |
